Hot take: I always air out my tent right when I get home. No more mildew smells.

I used to just stuff my tent in the garage after a trip. It would get this damp, funky odor after a while. Now, I set it up in the backyard for a few hours to dry completely. The fabric stays fresh, and I haven't had any mold issues since. It adds a bit of work, but it's worth it. What do you all do to keep your gear from getting stinky?

Adds a bit of work" is an understatement, my tent has a permanent home in my damp garage.

My last tent got so funky it basically became a science project. I'm with you on the air out method, even if it feels like setting up camp all over again. Simonh78, my garage is a black hole for damp gear too, it's a losing battle. I figure a few hours in the shade is better than a permanent mold farm, so Oliver might have a point about the sun. Honestly, the real work is explaining to my neighbors why there's a tent in my yard every Tuesday.

Have you thought about how sunlight might weaken the fabric?
