Just had a seam pop on a brand new Berber install in a finished basement, the homeowner was NOT happy.

That's a rough one. A popped seam on a new install usually means the carpet wasn't stretched properly during installation. You'll need to get the installer back out to re-stretch and re-seam that section.

Yeah, reesepatel is right about the stretch, but has anyone checked the humidity down there? A finished basement can be a moisture trap, and that'll make even a perfect seam let go fast.

Makes me notice how often the hidden stuff messes up the surface work. Like when a fresh paint job peels because someone didn't clean the wall first, or a new tile floor cracks because the subfloor wasn't flat. Everyone sees the popped seam or the cracked tile, but the real problem is always the thing you didn't prep for, the moisture or the uneven base. It's all about the foundation you can't even see.
