Hot take: I picked a cargo bike over an electric car for daily errands

Last year in Portland I had to choose between a used Nissan Leaf for $12,000 or a $3,500 used cargo bike with a motor kit. I went with the bike because I was tired of parking and insurance costs. Honestly it's been six months and I can carry two kids plus groceries just fine, even in the rain. But I still get weird looks from neighbors who think I'm crazy for not buying a car. Has anyone else here tried ditching their car for something smaller like a bike or scooter?

Wait until you need to haul a couch or drive in the snow.

Oh man, @uma_baker99 you nailed it. I remember trying to cram a full size sofa into my old sedan, it was a disaster. Took three trips with bungee cords and a lot of swearing. And driving in snow forget it, I spun out on a tiny hill last winter and had to call a friend. My pickup has been a lifesaver since then, but I still get nervous when the forecast says flurries. It's one of those things you don't think about until you're stuck, you know?
