Swapped my lawn for native plants in Austin - 6 months later the water bill dropped $40

I ripped out 800 square feet of Bermuda grass last spring and put in all Texas natives like bluebonnets and little bluestem. After six months, my water bill went from $80 to $40 a month, even through the dry July we had. Anyone else seen utility savings after ditching turf?

... wait, your water bill dropped from $80 to $40? That's insane. I'm up here in Seattle and I thought our rates were bad, but seeing that much savings just from swapping out grass... I mean, Bermuda is thirsty stuff but I didn't realize it was sucking down that much water. Makes me wonder what my own bill would look like if I tore out my front lawn.

Man that's awesome to hear! I did the same thing here in Phoenix last year and my bill dropped about $35 a month too. It feels good knowin you're savin money and helpin out the local bugs and birds at the same time.
