Discovered a cheap trick to clean my flat top faster
I run a small diner in Pittsburgh and my flat top grill used to take me 45 minutes to clean after each shift. Scraping and wiping never got that baked on grease off the corners. Then a buddy told me to just use a steam towel. I wet a bar towel, lay it on the hot flat top, and let it sit for 2 minutes. The steam loosens everything so I can scrape it off in under 10 minutes now. It saved me about $60 a month on chemicals too. Has anyone else tried this or got a better method for stuck on grime?

45 minutes seems like a lot, man. I mean I get it a diner gets grimy but are you sure you weren't just messing around too much? I clean my flat top in about 15 with just a scraper and some elbow grease. The steam towel thing works okay but I feel like you're making it sound like a miracle when it's just basic science.

See it different, honestly. A wet towel on a hot surface is just steam heat doing the heavy lifting so you don't have to scrub as hard, which sounds like a smart shortcut to me (especially when you're already tired after a shift). I get that some folks have stronger arms or more time, but if it cuts the job down by 35 minutes, calling it a neat trick doesn't seem like an overstatement.
