PSA: Your hood filters might be costing you way more than you think

I just read a report from a local HVAC guy in Portland who said a 6 month buildup on grease filters can cut exhaust efficiency by almost 30%. That means your AC and fans are working way harder for no good reason. He showed me a filter from a diner downtown that looked clean on the outside but was totally clogged underneath. Has anyone else run into this or found a good schedule for swapping them out?

and honestly the 30% number sounds lowballed to me! I pulled mine out after just 4 months and it was absolutely caked with greasy gunk. My kitchen started smelling like a diner fryer after that.

Hits different when you actually look at how much gunk builds up in everyday things we just ignore. Bet most people would be shocked if they checked their own vent hoods right now.
