Unpopular opinion: I used to think a 12-foot magnesium bull float was the only way to go for a big slab, but after a 4,000 sq ft pour in Spokane last fall where the handle snapped, I switched to a 14-foot aluminum one with a carbon fiber handle and it's just better.

I mean, the weight difference is huge, it doesn't rust, and I can hit the far edge without feeling like I'm gonna pull something, but has anyone else made the switch and noticed it changes how you work the cream?

You say aluminum just bounces, but maybe that bounce is what keeps you from digging in and messing up the cream?

That Spokane handle snap sounds like a bad batch. Magnesium has the right flex for working cream, you can feel it through the handle. Aluminum just bounces on the surface, you lose that feedback. My 12-foot mag still floats a 5,000 sq ft slab better than any aluminum I've rented.
