A chat with my plumber made me rethink the whole 'birds aren't real' thing

So my toilet was backing up again, and my usual guy, Frank, came over to snake the line. We were just shooting the breeze while he worked, and out of nowhere he goes, 'You know, I was watching these pigeons on a roof the other day. They just sit there, man. For hours. What are they even doing?' He said it so casually, but then he looked at me and added, 'Makes you wonder, right? Like, are they even real animals?' This was in my own bathroom in Phoenix, just a normal Tuesday. I laughed it off, but his totally serious, offhand comment stuck with me. It wasn't some online rant, just a dude who fixes pipes all day having a weird thought. It made the whole 'drone bird' joke feel less like a meme and more like a genuine, quiet suspicion some people carry around. Has a random, normal comment from someone ever made a wild theory seem slightly more plausible to you?

My buddy's barber said the same thing about squirrels last week. Just pointed out the window and was like "those things are way too coordinated." Totally normal guy, totally weird thought.

That "quiet suspicion" is the real thing. It's like what @charles919 said, these offhand comments from regular people make you see the pattern everywhere.
