Just realized I wasted $90 on a 'revolutionary' hair wax that just made everything sticky
Bought it after seeing a bunch of stylists on social media hype it up, but it left a weird film and weighed down every style I tried. What's a good, truly matte finishing product you all actually trust?

Honestly I used to just grab whatever looked matte on the shelf but after dealing with that same sticky mess I started paying way more attention to ingredients. Emery's right, once I switched to a clay pomade with silica up top it was a game changer, no more grease by lunch.

Skip the matte paste search and check the ingredients list first. That sticky film usually means too much glycerin or certain polymers. Look for products with silica or clay listed near the top. I had the same issue with a popular brand, switched to a basic clay pomade with zero shine, and it actually works.

That bit about glycerin is exactly what I found out the hard way. Tried a "matte" paste from a brand everyone hypes up and my hair felt like I'd put syrup in it by noon. Did you notice a big difference between stuff that lists clay first versus silica first? I've been using one with kaolin clay and it holds but sometimes feels heavy by the end of the day. Wondering if silica is lighter overall or if it just depends on the other junk they mix in. Also, how long does a jar last you with the clay pomade? Mine seems to dry out faster than paste did.
