Unpopular opinion: people keep calling the main boom the 'arm' and it drives me nuts

I mean, I heard a new guy on a site in Dallas yesterday ask if the 'arm' was extended enough, and I had to bite my tongue because it just sounds so wrong to anyone who's spent more than a week in the cab.

What's the official term in your manual?

Foreman who's never run the machine" is funny... but the real divide is paperwork. The manual says "boom" because that's what goes on the safety forms and incident reports. If you write "the stick" on an official report, some suit in an office will send it back. So you say one thing on paper and another in the cab.

So what do you actually call it on your sites? Because around here, we've always just said "boom" or "the stick". Calling it an arm feels like something you'd hear from a foreman who's never run the machine.
