Hung a shelf crooked 3 times before I got it right

I tried using a laser level for the first time on my garage wall and realized my stud finder was just lying to me the whole time. After the third attempt and a bunch of spackle, I finally got that shelf straight by marking it with a chalk line instead. Anyone else have a basic tool that just refuses to cooperate?

Three tries is basically just practice, not a real crisis. I hung a shelf last month and it took me four attempts before I stopped caring about the tiny crooked angle. Spackle fixes everything anyway, so nobody's gonna notice your first few holes.

Wait, did your stud finder also tell you there was a stud in the hollow part of your drywall? Because mine straight up gaslit me into drilling into nothing three times lol. I swear those things are either possessed or just hate us. At least the spackle gives us a nice little canvas to try again and again until we get it right.
