A client in Austin told me to 'just be more flexible' when I asked about a late payment.

They said it over coffee after I'd already waited 30 days past the invoice date. How do you handle that kind of talk without losing the job?

Oh, "frustrating" is putting it lightly, @zara_hill46. I've heard that line so many times I could make a drinking game out of it, but I'd be under the table by noon. My usual response is just a slow blink while I try to remember how to be a person. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to quietly scream into a pillow.

Honestly that slow blink thing is the realest reaction ever. You just freeze up trying to process the sheer lack of thought behind the comment. Makes me want to walk into the ocean sometimes.
