Stared at my fridge for 45 minutes trying to make a meal happen
Got home late last night, super hungry, and just opened the fridge door. I had half a red onion, a jar of capers, a block of cheddar, some leftover roast chicken, and a nearly empty tub of sour cream. I just stood there, door open, for what felt like forever. My brain could not connect the dots at all. I kept thinking 'there has to be a meal here' but I was too tired to see it. I ended up just eating the chicken cold with my fingers, which was pretty sad. I know I could have made something decent, like a quick chicken salad or thrown it all in a pan for a hash, but I totally blanked. Has anyone else had a fridge full of stuff that should work but your mind just goes completely empty?

Ever notice how the longer you stare, the less any of it looks like actual food?

Honestly that sounds like a pretty decent fridge haul. Half an onion, capers, cheese, chicken, sour cream. That's basically a deconstructed chicken salad waiting to happen. The real problem might be overthinking it. Sometimes you just need to grab the chicken and call it a night. It's not that deep, it's just dinner. We've all been too tired to cook and eaten something weird. The fridge light isn't a spotlight on your life choices.
