Warning: my car keys vanished from my kitchen counter and reappeared in the freezer

This happened last Thursday morning around 8 AM. I was rushing to leave for work, and I know for a fact I placed my keys on the counter next to my wallet. I turned around to grab my lunch, looked back, and they were gone. I tore the kitchen apart for twenty minutes, checking pockets and under the table. I was about to call in late when I opened the freezer to get ice for my water bottle. There they were, sitting right on top of a box of waffles. I live alone, and I hadn't opened the freezer all morning. It felt like something just plucked them from one spot and dropped them in another. Has anyone else had a small object teleport to a completely illogical place like that?

Yeah, I read an article that called that "the fridge door effect" with your brain on autopilot.

Whoa, hold on. That's not teleporting, that's just your brain on autopilot. I do stuff like that all the time when I'm rushing. You probably grabbed the keys with your lunch stuff, opened the freezer out of habit, and just set them down without noticing. Our brains check out sometimes. I once found the TV remote in the fridge after making a sandwich. It's weird, but it's just you being distracted.
