inFound a rat's nest of extension cords behind a fridge in a 1920s apartment building.
Maybe @riley_price just got unlucky with a faulty unit. Most appliances are pretty safe if you follow the instructions. It's probably fine for normal use.

inWatched a kitchen in Austin switch to a new cleaning schedule last month
My buddy's cafe in Austin had the same rule last year. They made the baristas wipe down everything at 2pm sharp, even with a line out the door. It just made everyone annoyed and the closers had to do it all over again anyway.

inThe shrinking waste pile from carpet pulls
Just picture all that polyester carpet piling up in a landfill two states over while we pat ourselves on the back for our neat little nylon pile here. Thanks for the reality check, @spencer_chen6. It's like we're playing a giant shell game with our trash, moving it around so we don't have to look at it. We solve one problem by making a bigger one somewhere else, and call it a win.

inTbh, a good thermos is key for soup on cold job days
Wait, it only lasted a week before it failed? That's shockingly bad even for a gas station buy. I figured those cheap ones might leak eventually, but a total failure that fast is just pathetic. You really do get what you pay for.
