Unpopular opinion: my fancy smartwatch is a total waste now

You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater because of one dead battery. That data is the whole point, it shows your progress over time. A basic tracker won't give you the same insights on heart rate zones or recovery. Maybe just charge your watch before the gym next time.

Serious question, my kraut in a 2 gallon crock went wrong at the county fair demo

Ever try a water bath? Wrap that crock in wet towels and stick it in a big tub of cool water. Sun will kill a ferment fast. My rule is if I can't keep my hand on the crock, it's too hot. Shade is not enough on a real summer day. You need active cooling or it's gonna blow.

I was torquing lug nuts by feel for my entire 8-year career until a customer in Akron brought in a wheel with three cracked studs.

Come on, it's not like skipping the torque wrench once is gonna make a wheel fly off. People have been tightening lugs by feel forever. That cracked wheel was probably a bad part or someone using an impact gun like an animal. The mentor's story feels like a scare tactic more than a real lesson.

I finally talked to my neighbor about her garden and it changed my grocery bill

Yeah, I tried a coffee plant once. It lasted about as long as my last New Year's resolution. Turns out my apartment's main condition is "dim and slightly sad," which isn't on the list of requirements. I killed a cactus the same year, so maybe I'm the specific condition plants can't handle. Saved a fortune on beans, though, since I never got past the sad little leaf stage.

My grocery bill in Atlanta dropped by $30 last month when I started making my own veggie broth.

Save herb stems, especially rosemary.
