Hot take: I spent $80 on a fancy moisture meter and it was a total waste

Everyone in my local plant group swears by them, but my Dr. Meter brand one gave me wild readings that made me overwater my fiddle leaf fig. I ended up just going back to the old finger test and it's been way healthier for months now. Has anyone else had a tool that just made things worse?

Got my first real phishing test at work last month and it changed my whole routine.

Am I the only one who thought the Pittsburgh marver was just a flat slab?

I was at a workshop in Seattle last year and saw an artist using the curved edge of their marver to shape a stem. I'd only ever used mine flat on the table for about five years. It completely changed how I handle basic pulls. Has anyone else found a simple tool they were using wrong for way too long?

The Wind River High Route vs. the John Muir Trail: one is just better

I did both routes in the last two summers, and the constant praise for the JMT feels off. The Wind River High Route in Wyoming has maybe a tenth of the people, no permit lottery, and terrain that makes you think instead of just walk. The JMT felt like a line at a national park after the first week, especially near Muir Trail Ranch. Has anyone else switched to less crowded alternatives and found the experience way better?

My boss told me to always double-check the grade stamp on pressure-treated lumber

He said he saw a deck fail in Tacoma last year because someone used the wrong grade for ground contact. I found a whole stack marked for above-ground only that was about to go on a fence line, saving a big headache. How often do you guys actually look at those stamps before you cut?

I honestly didn't think I'd keep the same one going this long, but it's survived two moves and a forgotten week in the back of the fridge. Anyone else have a culture that's outlived a pet or a car?
