Remember when you had to call the bank to check your balance?
I got hit with a $70 overdraft fee last month because an automatic payment went through a day before my direct deposit hit. The app showed my balance as fine, but it didn't count the pending bill. I called them and they wouldn't reverse it, said it was policy. Back in the day, you could just talk to a teller and they'd usually help you out. Has anyone else had this happen with their bank's app lately?

Isn't it crazy how the tech that's supposed to make things easier just hides the real problems? These apps give you a fake sense of security with a clean number, but they don't show the whole picture... all the pending stuff that'll wreck your account. It feels like the whole system is set up to catch you on these tiny timing issues, because that's where they make their money now. We traded the human who could fix a mistake for a slick app that just sets the trap.

My buddy Jake got a $35 fee for the same thing last week.

Used to think these apps were just helpful tools... but hearing about @spencerperez's friend Jake really shows how they profit from confusion. The clean number hides the mess until it's too late and you get hit. It's less about helping you and more about finding new ways to charge.
