Spent $25 on a fancy edition for my book club and it was a total waste

Our group picked 'The Overstory' and I bought the illustrated hardcover thinking the art would help the discussion. Nobody even opened it, we just argued about the characters for an hour. Do you ever feel like the physical book doesn't matter at all in these meetings?

Bought a special edition cookbook for a potluck once. Everyone just ate the food and talked about their jobs.

Potlucks are more about the company than the cookbook. The food just gives people a reason to get together.
