Just realized I've been wasting a ton of money on fresh herbs
I was making a big pot of lentil soup last week and saw my little packet of fresh cilantro was already wilting after two days. I looked it up and found out a single $3 packet is about the same as a whole dried jar that costs $4 and lasts for months. I felt so silly buying fresh every time a recipe called for a sprinkle. What other little things do you guys buy fresh that you could get dried instead?

Honestly, fresh herbs are a whole different thing. That dried cilantro tastes like dusty grass compared to the real stuff. For soups and long cooks, sure, dry is fine, but for finishing a dish or salsa, there's just no substitute.

Dusty grass" is the perfect way to put it. Fresh cilantro just has that bright, clean punch.

Yeah, taylorhunt is right about fresh herbs being different. But for that lentil soup, dried is totally fine (and way cheaper).
