My brother told me to stop tracking every single dollar and it actually helped

We were having a beer on his porch last Friday and I was complaining about my budget app. He said, 'You know, you can't optimize a system you hate using.' He pointed out that I was spending more time logging a $3 coffee than I was enjoying it, which made me quit the whole plan by Wednesday. I stopped the micro-tracking two weeks ago and just watch my main bills and savings instead. Has anyone else found that a simpler method works better for them in the long run?

What's your threshold for a 'main bill' versus something you let slide? I still track my rent and car payment, but I'm letting smaller subscriptions just come out without logging them.

Yeah, it's like we get so caught up in the tiny details we forget the whole point. I see it with meal planning too, where people quit because weighing every gram of spinach feels like a chore. The simple check on the big stuff, like you're doing now, usually sticks because it doesn't feel like a second job.

My friend had the same "optimize a system you hate" problem and just checking her main accounts changed everything.
