Hot take: I ran my 8-inch cutterhead at 50 RPM in heavy clay and it worked better than full speed.

Everyone says to crank it up in dense material, but last month on the Ohio job I dropped the revs and the pump pressure stayed steady while the spoil line filled faster. What's the slowest you've ever run a cutter and still moved good yardage?

How much torque were you pulling at that low speed? In my experience, that setup would bog down in our local clay. I have to keep my 8-inch above 80 RPM to break the material up enough for the pump to move it. Slower just packs the head.

Wyatt's out here acting like pump pressure is the final boss. It's just mud, man.
