inJust read that 19th century binders used actual human hair in thread
Makes me wonder how many everyday things from the past were made from what we'd now call weird materials. I saw a museum piece once, a picture frame decorated with hair from the whole family. It was just what they had on hand, so they used it. That old bookbinding trick feels like the same kind of practical, make-do thinking.

inI finally tried that old school trick for stretching carpet in a tight corner
Honestly thought that block of wood trick was just an old timer story until a Baltimore row house proved me wrong. My power stretcher couldn't even fit in the space, and a knee kicker was just chewing things up. Tried the wood and mallet on a stubborn spot near the fireplace, and it just clicked into place. Sometimes the simple way is the right way, you know?

inStopped backcombing for volume back in the day and now the styles hold their shape better.
Didn't they say ozone holes were partly from hairspray back then?
