inMy cousin taught me to braid hair on our porch swings. Now I do it for a living.
But is it really that deep? People get so caught up in the "my grandma taught me" stuff. A basic braid is a basic braid. It's like saying learning to hammer a nail means you're ready to build a house. Doing it for a living means dealing with a million different heads of hair, using all kinds of products, and having clients complain if it isn't perfect. That porch swing feeling doesn't pay the bills when a fancy fishtail braid falls apart in an hour.

inAlmost dropped a beam due to wrong bolt specs
Seriously. It's the same with software updates breaking your phone out of nowhere.

inWarning: I swore by solo jobs until last week's disaster.
Think back to a job where the wood pinched the blade or the motor stalled under load. You had all the plans, but now you're holding a running saw that's stuck in a tree. How do you safely extract yourself without a second pair of hands? I've seen guys spend hours rigging pulleys alone for what a spotter could fix in minutes. What do you call that if not a disaster?
